Smoke alarms are your early warning to get out quickly when there is a fire. Three out of five fire deaths occur in homes with out working smoke alarms. The Monroe Fire Department recommends checking your smoke alarms every month and changing the batteries twice a year. Smoke alarms need to be replaced after 10 years.
